What is the best cast iron weight plates for a home gym?

Our top-selling Northern Cast Iron Weight Plates are the 10kg, 12.5kg and 15kg weight plates. These weights are perfect for home gym training and weightlifting for beginners and intermediate lifters. These weight plates have a precision 2-inch Olympic centre hole that fits perfectly in Olympic bars. It also has a powder-coated finish, making it resistant to rust and sweat. You can also use it for weight machines to add intensity to your workouts.

What are the main benefits of using traditional cast iron plates?

The biggest benefit of cast iron weight plates is their thinner size, so you can fit more weight plates onto your barbell sleeve. These weight plates are also cost-effective, costing much less than bumper plates.

What are Olympic cast iron plates?

These weight plates are used commonly for Olympic barbells that is used for strength training, weightlifting, and home gyms plate-only workouts. Whether you’re loading the bar for a new personal record or doing some plate lunges, these are built to stay locked-in and help you reach your fitness goals, one rep at a time.

Do cast iron plates rust, and how do I prevent it?

Continuous exposure to moisture and sweat can cause surface rust over time in the cast iron plates. To ensure that they stay rust-free, make sure to follow these steps:

Always wipe them down with a dry cloth after your training specially if you use it for high-sweat and humid gym.

Do not store them outdoors; always make sure to store them indoors on dedicated plate racks, toaster weight racks or multi-purpose racks.

Rub a thin coat of oil, machine oil (diesel oil), or WD‑40 and wipe off excess. Reapply periodically specially if you don't use them very often.

What barbells do these cast iron plates fit?

These Olympic cast iron plates are built for any standard 2-inch (50mm) Olympic bar. They’re designed to sit tight and stay locked-in, so you can focus entirely on the lifts.

Which is better cast iron weight plates or bumper plates?

Cast iron weight plates are much thinner than bumper plates, which means you can load up way more weight when doing your weightlifting and brench press. But if your training involves explosive movements like cleans or snatches or overhead drops, bumper plates are your best mate. Because they’re made of high-density rubber, they’re designed to be dropped from overhead without smashing your floor

Will these cast iron plate weights damage my floor?

The cast iron plates may damage flooring if dropped, so buy a heavy duty rubber mats or gym flooring to use during your lifts. It gives you that rock-solid base to stay locked-in during your lifts without any stress. But if your purpose is overhead drops, choose Olympic bumper plates instead.

What is the difference between cast iron plates and bumper plates?

Cast Iron Plates are made from solid molten iron. They are thin and highly durable, but not applicable for overhead drops, as they will crack the concrete or damage your bar. Bumper plates are made of rubber-coated steel core. They are much thicker but specially designed for safe overhead drops and weightlifting, without the worry of damaging your floors.

What does "Olympic size" in cast iron plates mean?

This means that our cast iron weight plates have a standard 2-inch (50mm) centre hole. It can fit into a standard Olympic-sized barbell, EZ curl bar, or plate-loaded gym machine that has a 2-inch sleeve.
